More Good Smells, Less Gatekeeping.

Matilija Farm went public after The Great Tech Layoffs of Spring 2021.

Surrounded by organic yard waste in the middle of idyllic Ojai and needing to pay rent, a newly unemployed Samantha got to work making friends with local landscapers and luxury hotels. Soon, she had mountains of free organic lavender, pine, eucalyptus, olive branches, pink peppercorn, and every sage she could imagine at her fingertips.

First, those plants became wreaths and bouquets, sold at farmers markets and Etsy. Then, Samantha decided to apply the same concepts she'd learned in cannabis extractions on things that smelled good--lavender, pine.

Down the rabbit hole of botanical perfumery she went: and in Fall 2021, Matilija Fragrance was born.

Since its founding, Matilija Fragrance has received rave reviews and support from the fragrance community, including blog coverage from industry icon Solidly Scented, five-star reviews from MORARI and other independent perfumers, and extensive positive feedback from our community of Etsy customers.

Botanical Perfumes Are Magic.

Modern perfumery--the art of mixing aromachemicals--is beautiful, without a doubt.

But not everyone has the financial ability, connections, and desire to make modern perfumery work.

If all you have is the ability to walk in a forest, access to solvent, and lots of time and patience, you can create perfumes out of 100% natural, organic, low-cost ingredients.
